Brow Lift
Why Brow Lift?
Are you sometimes surprised by what you see in the mirror? Do you look sad, grumpy, and weary even when you’re not? If forehead lines and sagging eyebrows are starting to creep up on your appearance, making you look older and more tired than you really are, a brow lift may be able to help.
At Reflections Cosmetic Surgery in Cartersville, GA, our lifts give patients natural results that are both youthful and beautiful.
Read on to find out if this cosmetic surgery procedure is a good fit for you.
What Is a Brow Lift?
This type of lift, which is also sometimes referred to as a forehead lift, is an outpatient treatment that can smooth over forehead wrinkles, bring sagging eyebrows back into their natural position, and combat other signs of aging in the upper face.
Patients who have undergone this treatment enjoy a refreshed and more relaxed appearance. Patients sometimes opt to combine this type of lift with eyelid surgery or other cosmetic treatments, such as laser resurfacing.
There are multiple types of brow lifts: endoscopic brow lift, direct brow lift, temporal brow lift, trichophytic brow lift.
Endoscopic
Endoscopic lifts involve making several shorter incisions in the scalp behind the hairline. Your physician will use a scope, essentially a small camera on the end of a tiny tube, to help accomplish the cosmetic changes you are hoping for. Endoscopic lifts are a particularly good option for patients who don’t need a significant lift.
Direct
A direct brow lift is for those patients that have deep furrows (wrinkles) in their forehead and want an easy recovery. This procedure involves removing an ellipse of skin from the forehead above the eyebrows, thereby elevating the eyebrows. The goal is to camouflage the incision in the hair of the eyebrows.
Temporal
A temporal brow lift focuses primarily on the lateral or outsides of the eyebrows. This approach uses an incision in the hairline near the temporal region. Dissection is done on top of the skull bone, the tissues are elevated, and a small portion of skin is removed allowing the mild elevation of the lateral portion of the brow.
Trichophytic
A trichophytic brow lift is for someone who needs a moderate amount of brow elevation and has somewhat thick hair. A zig-zag incision is made just inside the hairline across the top of the forehead. The skin is elevated and redraped to allow for elevation of the brows. This can allow for a very natural and consistent brow lift. No muscle is involved with this lift. This is the preferred method of Dr. Gusching.
What Happens During a Brow Lift?
A brow lift takes an hour or two to complete and involves the use of anesthesia. Incisions made behind the hairline in a zig-zag pattern will make it possible to remove excess skin on the forehead and hide the incision in the hairline.
The aim is to tighten the upper face in a way that eases furrows and minimizes sagging skin. At the conclusion of the treatment, the incision will be closed, the area will be cleansed, and your forehead will be bandaged.
How Much of a Recovery Is Involved?
Most patients plan to spend about a week recovering at home after this treatment.
During this time, you’ll be advised to keep your head elevated and refrain from strenuous exercise.
When you leave after your treatment, you’ll have specific instructions on how to care for your brow over the next few days.
What Advantages Are Associated With This Treatment?
A Permanent Solution
A forehead lift can resolve your concerns about your upper face permanently. Your face will continue to age and evolve, but the lifting and tightening associated with this treatment offer long-lasting results.
Helps Turn Back the Clock
This type of lift is a way of fighting back against signs of aging on the upper face. This treatment can lift your forehead and brows into a more natural position, ease the appearance of frown lines and creases, and tighten up sagging skin. It can leave you looking more energetic and youthful.
More Vibrant Eyes
The shape and position of the brow help frame the look of our eyes, one of our most important features. Many patients who have undergone this treatment are surprised to find that their eyes appear brighter and more pronounced.
What Other Options Do I Have for Upper Face Renewal?
Facelift
A facelift is very similar to a forehead lift in that it tightens skin and smooths over lines and other signs of aging. The primary difference between the two is that while the lower facelift works to rejuvenate the mid and low face, a forehead lift specifically targets the upper face.
Similarly, eyelid lifts and neck lifts hone in on those particular parts of the face.
Brow Lift Q&A
Will a Brow Lift Limit My Ability to Move My Forehead?
No. This type of lift will raise the skin on your upper face, but you’ll still be able to more your forehead normally afterward. Our goal is to give patients results that are both natural and subtle. That means your brows won’t be overly arched and you won’t have a permanently surprised look. Instead, you’ll have a more relaxed and rejuvenated appearance.
Take the First Step Toward a Rejuvenated Appearance
If you’re tired of being misunderstood because your brows are sending the wrong message, or if you simply want to smooth over early signs of aging in the upper face, a brow lift could be a great option.
