BREAST AUGMENTATION
Why Breast Augmentation?
It’s no secret that when people think of cosmetic surgery, they think of breast augmentation. This is one of the most widely-known procedures, heralded for giving women the soft, feminine curves they desire.
At Reflections Cosmetic Surgery in Cartersville, Georgia, we have the skill and knowledge necessary to help you achieve the breast size that’s right for you.
What Is Breast Augmentation?
- Restored breast volume
- Improved breast symmetry
- More natural-looking and rounded breast shapes
Explaining Breast Implants
Some patients think breast augmentation and breast implants describe two different procedures. They are, in fact, the same surgery; breast implants simply refer to the means used to enhance breast size.
Implants are made of two materials: silicone or saline. Many patients ask which looks and feels more natural.
Our goal with this procedure is to give you natural-looking contours with no obvious signs of surgery, so both choices mimic a woman’s inherently feminine curves. But silicone is usually chosen as the option that feels more natural.
Which Is Safer?
Silicone and saline are equally safe. Neither is linked to an increased risk of breast cancer, and they both enhance a woman’s curves.
How It Works
Customization
Because of the options available with breast augmentation, this surgery is largely customizable. One outcome the procedure cannot achieve, however, is a more lifted silhouette. This would require a breast lift, an option we can explore with you. Augmentation simply refers to the size of the breasts.
What to Expect
This surgery is usually performed as an outpatient procedure and rarely takes more than two hours. Once incisions are made, we’ll insert the breast implants. We’ll then finish by closing the incisions, and following that, you’ll have a brief recovery period before being released. Once home, you can resume normal activities within a few days. Recovery typically yields little to no pain, and because this procedure does not involve major internal organs, there are few risks for complications and/or side effects.
Restrictions
We’ll likely advise you not to engage in strenuous activity for at least a week or two following your surgery. This will allow your body time to safely heal. You may also be told to forego heavy lifting and exercise that involves running and bouncing.
Tips for Recovery
One of the best tips we can offer for recovery is to select a few outfits prior to your procedure. You won’t have to bend or reach for clothes in the days immediately following surgery, so you won’t harm your incisions, and you’ll have clothes readily available to make your day easier. We recommend choosing loose-fitting outfits so you’ll be comfortable. Also do some walking to keep blood flowing throughout the body, which will promote healing and eliminate the possibility of developing blood clots. Finally, drink lots of water to stay hydrated and eat nourishing foods that provide essential vitamins and nutrients.
Benefits of Surgery
Breasts play an important role in the female physique. They provide the soft, rounded appearance so often used to identify femininity. Sometimes, however, a woman’s breasts simply don’t grow in proportion to the rest of her body. Other times, pregnancy or weight loss can reduce breast size. Surgery can enhance breast size and restore a plumper silhouette. Additional benefits include:
- Balancing uneven breasts
- Giving volume to flat breasts
- Increasing cleavage
- Providing projection
- Giving symmetry with the whole body
What Size Is the Right Size?
Some patients ask us the most commonly desired bra cup. Because breast size naturally differs, and augmentation will reflect your personal body shape, we say there is no right size. We recommend you not look at other women when choosing to have this surgery, but instead look at your bust now, decide what you want it to look like in the future, and help us create a treatment plan designed just for you. This will ensure your satisfaction with the results.
Is This Right For Me?
Once you know the reasons for wanting augmentation, we can take the necessary steps to determine your candidacy. The first step in our evaluation process will be to look at your current and previous health. We will review existing medical conditions – if you have any – on an individual basis to ensure you can safely undergo the procedure.
Realistic Expectations
It’s important to know that every surgery poses some limitations. We’ve already discussed that breast augmentation is not a substitute for a breast lift, which can restore skin elasticity and give you a firmer bustline. If this is a consideration with your procedure, we’ll discuss further details during your consultation. Similarly, your expectations should align with your body proportions and general physique. The goal with this procedure is to give you a balanced and natural appearance. It’s unlikely you’ll be able to jump three cup sizes, so set a realistic goal. If you need help with this, we will be happy to offer our advice and professional opinion.
