Brazillian Butt Lift

Why Brazillian Butt Lift (BBL)?

For many people, diet and exercise are not enough to provide the fullness and shape you desire in the buttock. Some people have lost weight and others are just not blessed genetically with a round, voluptuous buttock. One type of surgery, however, removes the obstacle blocking the realization of your aesthetic goals.

At Reflections Cosmetic Surgery in Cartersville, Georgia, we are proud to offer the Brazillian Buttock Lift, otherwise known as the BBL.

The Brazillian Butt Lift better known as the BBL is one of the hottest trending surgeries in the cosmetic field of surgery. This procedure entails liposuction of a part of the body and transferring this fat into the buttock. This is known as an autologous fat transfer.

The fat is usually harvested from the posterior flanks but can include any area of the body. This procedure is often done in conjunction with lipo 360.

What Is A Brazillian Butt Lift (BBL)?

Is A Brazillian Butt Lift (BBL) Safe?

The BBL has recieved much attention in the media in the last few years as being the most dangerous cosmetic plastic surgery procedure.

This is true but only due to the lack of regulation and lack of training of the BBL.

The biggest culprits were surgeons specifically in Florida. With the demand for BBL elevating in Florida at an alarming demand, more and more surgeons are performing the procedure.

Unfortunately the training level and education of the BBL was lacking.

The proper way to perform the BBL is by placing the fat into the subcutaneous space, or the space under the skin where there is already fat.

Placing the fat into the muscle can cause the fat to be accidentally placed into the large veins in the buttock muscle. The fat globule in the vein can then travel to the heart and into the lungs.

This is called a fat embolism and is very dangerous. This was such a serious issue that The State Medical Board of Florida passed a law making it illegal to inject the fat into the gluteus muscles.

At Reflections Cosmetic Surgery we ensure our patient’s safety through multiple avenues.

Don’t let this procedure scare you. It is very rewarding.

Dr. Gusching is fellowship trained by the AACS and board certified in Cosmetic Surgery. He is also an active member of WAGS, World Association of Gluteal Surgeons. This organization is on the cutting edge in researching and sharing information and techniques that have proven safe.

In the right hands, a Brazillian Buttock Lift carries the same low risk as many other cosmetic procedures.

What is the recovery like?

The recovery for a BBL can vary however, it is related to how much liposuction was performed.

On average, people are out of commission for about 3-5 days. This means they are draining fluid from the liposuction for about 24-48 hours and sore. After the 5th day, the patient should be able to do normal daily activities, however no cardio or heart rate elevation.

Also, for the first three weeks NO SITTING ON YOUR BUTT! Putting pressure on your butt can cause the fat that was grafted to not survive and you impede your results.

Full recovery is about 6 weeks or so. You will be required to wear compressive surgical garments for approximately 3-4 months. We will provide a Marena brand garment for the first two weeks.

Who Is A Good Candidate For A Brazillian Buttock Lift (BBL)?

A consultation will be required to determine if you are a good candidate for a BBL.

A good candidate is BMI between 22-30, who is at their goal weight, and is generally healthy. The patient must be realistic with their results as much of the results can depend on the patient’s anatomy and amount of fat that is able to be harvested.

We will also review your lifestyle habits and your general medical history, including any drug allergies you have or any cosmetic treatments for body contouring you have previously had.

Pre-Procedure Guidelines

You will be given a list of pre-procedure guidelines to help you prepare for surgery. Please follow all directions carefully to ensure your surgery is successful. Some pre-procedure guidelines may include the following:

Quit nicotine use six weeks prior to and after surgery
Avoid drinking alcohol
Discontinue taking blood-thinning medications
Do not take certain supplements

Because this is a surgery, you will need to arrange transportation after completing your procedure as you cannot drive yourself home.

Post-Procedure Guidelines

After your surgery, you will be given a list of post-procedure guidelines to guide you through your recovery period. It’s essential to follow these directions to minimize your discomfort and ensure you heal well from your treatment. Some post-procedure guidelines may include the following:

Avoid strenuous activities
Engage in light exercises such as walking
Do not drink alcohol
Drink plenty of water
Take prescribed medications
Regularly clean and change bandages
Mild hyperbaric oxygen can aid in healing and grafted fat survival

When Will You See the Results?

You will see results immediately. The buttock will have fluid as well as large amount of swelling. The buttock can look boxy and misshapen initially.

As the swelling decreases and the fat remodels the results are usually a smooth contour with curves for days. As there is lots of swelling, it will take several months for you to see the final results of this procedure.
